Part time position (6-8 hrs. wk.)

Definition:  Professional accounting and auditing work related to maintenance of the town’s financial records, controlling the expenditures of town funds; reporting and all other related work as required.

Supervision:  Works under the general direction of the Town Accountant with duties and responsibilities defined by state laws, incorporating the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the Uniform Municipal Accounting System (UMAS). Performs responsible duties requiring judgment and initiative in assisting the Town Accountant in ensuring that municipal accounting policies, practices and procedures conform to all applicable laws and regulations.  Ability to work independently and accurately.  Work demands good organizational skills, and attention to detail, analytical skills and the ability to meet deadlines.

Job Environment:  Work is generally performed under typical office conditions.  Operates standard office equipment, computers and calculators.  Makes frequent contact concerning accounting, and budgetary matters with town departments.  Has access to confidential information.

Duties:  Assists Accountant as needed.  Answers questions from the Select Board, Accountant, departments, and the general public regarding town finances.  Acts as Town Accountant in the absence of the Accountant.

Education and Experience:  Bachelor/Associates degree in accounting, business administration, or related field plus one year of professional accounting experience and municipal experience preferred; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.  Knowledge of M.G.L. and Accounting Standards, and budgetary functions.  Ability to understand complex accounting issues.

Planning Board Position

The Planning Board in Wales, MA, is seeking a member to fill a vacancy until the 2017 election. Duties include reviewing and approving special permits, reviewing and recommending zoning bylaws, fielding residents’ concerns, and other duties related to the operations of the Planning Board. Candidate must be available to attend Board Meetings on the second and forth Mondays of each month at 7:00PM. Position stipend is $300/year. Position is not eligible for benefits. Interested applicants should send a letter of interest to:

Building Inspector Position Posting
